Dive into the universe of “Microcosmos” and evolve in an animated film peopled by insects. This is the interactive experience ArtFx students will provide for you during the Workshop of the Clermont Short Film Festival.
Discovering the compositing technique
Filmed directly in front of a green screen, the workshop visitors will be integrated, using compositing software, into a microcosmic world peopled by little actual and computer-generated insects.
Compositing is a combination of digital procedures which consist of mixing a number of image sources together to create a single shot. Reducing characters and integrating them into an animated sequence is a skill well mastered by students in their second year of visual effects studies at ArtFx.
Here, in this specific utilization of compositing, the challenge resides in directing the actors during the filming process.
About the Festival’s workshop
The International Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand is the most important event in the world dedicated to short films. Close to 150,000 spectators and 3,000 professionals come from around the world to attend this event.
Each year, during the Festival, the Workshop is the place where film and animation schools, image and sound creation studios and organizations present their knowledge and the different facets of their fields. Over the course of five days, the Workshop allows you to discover and explore the different stages of film creation and interact with professionals in these fields.
Fan of little pests?
The 2012 theme, “la mouche et autres insectes (the fly and other insects),” will permate every area of the Workshop.
The film Festival will also feature: a restrospective “Mouches et autres bestioles (Flies and other pests).” The fly is the uncontested star of this animal casting, but spiders, butterflies, ants and bees will also be on the scene.
