FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
1/ HOW DO I APPLY?
Online applications begin November 9, 2020. At that point, you will be able to apply online using this link: https://artfx.school/en/application-process2021/
To apply, complete the online application form and chose a date for your interview and general knowledge assessment. We will contact you to confirm the date of your interview once we receive your completed online application.
2/ WHAT INFORMATION WILL I NEED TO PROVIDE FOR THE ONLINE APPLICATION?
Provide details about your educational background and your work experience:
Official Photo ID (scan of passport or residence card)
Portfolio / Creative Documents
School Transcripts (These can be submitted in June if you are currently in school)
Letter of Motivation
3/ HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE WRITTEN EXAM?
This is a multiple choice exam testing your knowledge of Art, English and CG skills. It is also a drawing assessment. The day is divided into 2 parts: Written exams in the morning from 9:30am to 12:30pm and individual interviews in the afternoon from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
4/ HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE INTERVIEW?
The interview is your chance to demonstrate your artistic skills and how motivated you are to study at ARTFX. You will be able to present your portfolio, then your interviewer will spend approximately 15 minutes asking you questions.
5/ WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY PORTFOLIO?
At the bottom of the online application you will find all the information you need to prepare your portfolio (personal artistic works for the Digital Director cursus / creative portfolio around games for the Video game cursus / personal works for the VFX-Game Programming cursus).
6/ I AM A FOREIGNER OR I LIVE IN A DOM/TOM TERRITORY
If you live outside mainland France (another country or a DOM/TOM), select ‘foreigner’ or ‘DOM/TOM’ on your online application form. Instead of an in-person interview, you will need to send a detailed letter of motivation and Digital Director candidates will need to send art portfolios via Dropbox, Google Drive or WeTransfer. Candidates will also be allowed take their exam online and participate in Skype interviews.
7/ WHAT TYPE OF INFORMATION SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY MOTIVATION LETTER?
Explain why you are applying at ARTFX. You should also share information about your educational and artistic background/experience, your professional goals, and finally your expectations and desires for your time at ARTFX.
8/ DO YOU HAVE CLASSES THAT ARE TAUGHT IN ENGLISH?
Yes, all the programs at ARTFX are available in English or French.
9/ I AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE ONLINE APPLICATION
Verify the format of your documents (photos, degree, etc.). If they are in the wrong format or too large, you will not be able to complete your online application.
Studying at ArtFX
1/ HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO STUDY AT ARTFX?
Tuition and fees can be found on the Curriculum and School Fees page.
2/ DOES ARTFX OFFER STUDENT HOUSING?
Currently, ARTFX does not have any housing options to offer, however, we do provide all enrolled students with a list of housing options located near the school. Beginning September 2021, ARTFX will be able to propose on-campus housing for a small number of students, with priority given to new and international students.
3/ CURRENTLY I HAVE A FELLOWSHIP/SCHOLARSHIP/GRANT. WILL I BE ABLE TO APPLY THIS FUNDING TO ARTFX?
ARTFX is unable to accept scholarships, grants or fellowhips as tuition payment. ARTFX accepts the following forms of payments: checks from a French-based bank, bank transfers or cash.
4/ DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DRAW BEFORE I APPLY TO ARTFX?
Not all of our programs require advanced drawing skills. However, during the course of your studies at ARTFX you will need to work on developing your drawing and other basic art skills. Please note: the Animation specialization does require advanced drawing skills.
5/ CAN I APPLY TO THE 4TH YEAR OF THE DIGITAL DIRECTOR OR VIDEO GAME PROGRAM?
For the 2D or 3D Animation, VFX, Cinema and Video Game courses, students are able to enter the 1st, 2nd and exceptionally in the 3rd year.
For the curriculum “Game & VFX Programming” students are able to enter the 1st, 2nd, 3th or 4th year.
6/ IF I APPLY TO THE 2ND YEAR, BUT I'M NOT ACCEPTED, CAN I THEN APPLY TO THE 1ST YEAR PROGRAM?
The application process is basically the same regardless of the program year. The results of your exam, interview, portfolio review and overall experience will determine which year of the program you will be invited to enter.
7/ WHAT ARE THE BRIDGES BETWEEN THE VFX/Video Game Programming, VIDEO GAMES AND DIGITAL DIRECTING PROGRAMS?
Throughout their courses students from all 3 sections collaborate on joint projects. in addition, 1st and 2nd year students in digital production may decide to reorient themselves to the Video game section. Likewise, at the end of the 4th year, students in the video game section can join the Digital Directing section to specialize in 3D Animation, CG or VFX.
8/ IS THERE A MAXIMUM AGE FOR APPLICANTS?
9/ DO YOU OFFER DISTANCE LEARNING OPTIONS?
10/DO YOU REQUIRE A BACCALAUREAT?
Yes. A BAC or its equivalent is required for admission to ARTFX. All types of BACs are accepted.
11/ DO STUDENTS NEED SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT?
Beginning in YEAR 2 of the program, all students are required to have a personal stylus pen. In addition to this, we recommend that all students have a personal computer, a tablet and a legal version of the software used in class so they will have the option of working at home.
12/ IF I DO NOT HAVE A COMPUTER CAN I WORK AT SCHOOL?
Students are encouraged to work at school. For this reason, the school is open from 8:00 AM to 10:30PM. When a room is not occupied by a class, it is available to students.
13/ HOW LONG IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS?
A response from the school is generally given no more than 10 days after the examination of each online application. For international applications, however, the initial response time could be up to 3 weeks. Once you are accepted, you will have 1 month to confirm your enrollment.

15/ I AM NOT A EUROPEAN CITIZEN. DO I NEED A VISA?
Yes. Campus France is the organization that handles student VISA applications. Please visit the Campus France website for details associated with your country: http://www.campusfrance.org/en
16/ /DO ARTFX STUDENTS RECEIVE STUDENT DISCOUNTS?
Yes. Once you are enrolled at ARTFX, you will have official ‘student’ status and you will be able to benefit from all sources of aid and discounts available to students in France. This will also allow you to contact the housing assistance organization, C. R. O. U. S, before the end of April.
17/ WHAT TYPE OF DEGREE DOES ARTFX OFFER?
All ARTFX Masters are recognized as Master’s level programs accredited by the RNCP at level 7 (Master’s degree equivalent) as “Digital Director”.
The RNCP is the central reference framework for all diplomas, qualifications and titles recognized by French government.
18/ I WANT TO ATTEND THE PROGRAMMER MASTER DEGREE. WHICH COURSES SHOULD I FOLLOW FOR THE FIRST 2-3 YEARS?
You can enroll in the ‘Technical Director in Video Games and Special Effects‘ course from the 1st year. The first two years are in common with the other courses, then you specialize in “CG Programming” or “Game Programming” from the 3rd year.
19/ IF I HAVE CHOSEN 3D, CAN I ATTEND THE PROGRAMMER MASTER DEGREE
Sure. Programming is taught in every curriculum.
