: Mastering digital images and the industry-standard.

Pedagogical Outcome : Understanding the VFX workflow and how light works in the real world.

Milestone Reached : You can now create a realistic 3D environment  and place it into a photo with believable lighting.

Pedagogical Outcome : Precision in “Matchmove” and “Paintover” (cleaning up frames using AI and digital art), FX and 2.5 technique in Nuke.


Software Covered : 3DEqualizer, Houdini, Photoshop, Nuke.


Milestone Reached : You have mastered “Invisible VFX”, the ability to modify a scene so naturally that the viewer cannot tell it was a VFX shot.

The Goal : Creating massive, believable digital sets and complex visual effects.


Pedagogical Outcome : Managing “3D Environment Assembly”. Learning how to build entire digital worlds that are optimised for rendering in Karma.


Software Covered : Houdini/Solaris/Karma and Nuke.


Milestone Reached : You can now build, light, and render a complete digital environment from a concept sketch.

Photo-grammetry

The Goal : Bringing the physical world into the computer using advanced scanning.

Pedagogical Outcome : Learning “Photogrammetry” and on-set “Scouting” to recreate a shot.


Software Covered : RealityScan, Maya, Houdini and Nuke.


Milestone Reached : You understand the bridge between a physical film set and a digital studio, capable of recreating real objects in 3D with 100% accuracy.

The Action Sequence

The Goal : Mastering high-end “hero” shots involving characters and action.

Pedagogical Outcome : Advanced compositing AI and FX handling muzzle flashes, character integration, and complex digital anomalies.


Software Covered : AI software, Houdini and Nuke.


Milestone Reached : You are now a “Shot Finisher,” capable of handling the most difficult and high-energy shots found in Hollywood blockbusters.

The Goal : Taking full creative and technical control of a production.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

External tests such as IELTS or TOEFL here

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, not necessarily specific to vfx here

    Interview & Decision Meet with the ARTFX team to discuss your portfolio and professional goals. You will receive a final decision within 10 working days.

Fees

Your Investment in a World Class VFX Career
  • UK students: £14000 for the one-year program
  • International students: £22000 for the one-year program

Fees include all production costs, full access to campus facilities, and the use of professional- grade hardware, the same tools you’ll find in top VFX studios. These rates apply to the 2026 intake and are reviewed annually in June.

Visas and immigration

If you do not hold a British passport or settled status, you will likely require a visa to study at ARTFX London with AUB. It is essential to secure the correct visa typically via the Student Route before you travel, as you cannot begin your course without valid right-to-study documentation.

In this role, he brings his extensive professional experience and a passion for mentoring to develop the next generation of VFX artists. His hands-on proficiency with industry-standard software such as Maya, Houdini, Nuke, and DaVinci Resolve allows him to provide deep, practical insights to students, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of the modern VFX and cinema industry. Lisa mann

Lisa Mann is the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of Arts University Bournemouth (AUB), a role she assumed in January 2025. Her career in higher education is marked by a focus on innovation, industry collaboration, and strategic development.
Before her appointment as Vice-Chancellor, Lisa Mann served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and, prior to that, as the Executive Director of Innovation at AUB, starting in December 2022. In this capacity, she was instrumental in expanding the university’s curriculum, including the launch of the new School of Arts, Media, and Creative Industries Management.

Jonathan carr

Dr. Jonathan Carr is the Director of the Bournemouth Film School (BFS) at Arts University Bournemouth, where he also serves as the Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Film Production program.
Dr. Carr has a background in filmmaking with over 10 years of industry experience as a producer, director, and editor. His work includes the feature documentary My Brother the Ark Raider and he is a co-manager of the production company Plainview Films. His academic career includes a PhD from the University of York, prior to which he worked as a journalist.
